An Art graduate who returned to paintings after a career in teaching, Debbie’s work is predominantly abstract, she usually works in oils, but also experiments with mixed media. She had a number of solo exhibitions last year and is now working on a new body of work.
As an abstract oil painter, Debbie is always looking for inspiration. These pieces evolved out of a project with tissue paper. The white frames around the shapes give the resulting forms a monolithic feel, evoking stones from ancient history. The markings feel symbolic, a connection.
Debbie draws ideas from an evolving personal vocabulary of marks and a love of colour and layering. Her inspiration derives from the world around us; trying to make connections and an interest in ancient history; the marks our ancestors made.
