Henriette Busch is a contemporary painter living and working in St. Albans. She was born in Berlin but settled in England almost 40 years ago. After a BA Honours Fine Art Degree course at the University of Hertfordshire she has exhibited regularly in London and throughout the UK. Her paintings have also been shown in Zurich, Singapore and Berlin, and her vibrant and expressive works are in many private collections in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, USA and Dubai.
Before settling in England, Henriette lived in West Africa, South America and North America. The memories of these places greatly influence her work though her main inspiration comes from the landscape – wherever it may be – because beauty can be found everywhere.
Henriette is a versatile artist, easily moving between figurative, abstract, semi-abstract, figure drawing, collage and digital art. In her paintings she aims to create something meaningful and evocative but also something joyful.
Her paintings are in-between representation and abstraction. She works from sketches, reference photos and memories and depending on what the painting needs, will use acrylics, oils, pastels, collage and resin – or all of them.
Henriette is drawn to beauty of all kinds – be it the beauty of nature, or the beauty of the human body, or the beauty of shapes, forms and colours and how they all fit together.
She often paints spontaneously, trying to capture the feeling of how it was, and how she can best express the sights, sounds and beauty of a place with marks, lines, colours and shapes. In her paintings, she moves intuitively between the real and the imaginary, often creating an ambiguous image which allows the viewer to put their own interpretation and memories into the painting.
