Mike’s early interest in art was rekindled in 1975 when he undertook Teacher Workshop classes in ceramics at St Albans College of Art and Design. After a year he was thoroughly hooked and has continued his studies at Hertfordshire University.
Together with his wife Lisbeth De La Cour, who is also a potter, Mike constructed a pottery in the grounds of their house in St Albans. The range of their work stretches from traditional stoneware to more colourful majolica.
Mike’s work in this exhibition is especially influenced by bright colours which are achieved by the use of majolica glaze. Mike decorates the bowls with vivid paintings of fruit, flowers, boats, fish and other images which express his love of the sea and countryside.
