Sharon Korek 2025

Sharon’s glass art is inspired by fossils, nature and the awesome power of the sea. Her art includes pieces in kiln formed glass and cast lead crystal sculptures.

Sharon set up her own studio in Hitchin in 2014 after retiring from working as a university lecturer in law.  She says “Having my own kiln means that I have a greater and more precise control over the firing process and I can experiment and combine various techniques to produce unique pieces.”

Glass is a fabulous and versatile medium to work with and there is always a moment of anticipation and excitement when opening the kiln, to see if the intense heat and gravity have realised what I had in my imagination.

In my early career, I lectured in biology and nature in all its glorious forms and colours continues to inspire my creations and creating glass pieces conjures up thoughts of places and feelings that I incorporate into my work.

I also create personal commissions such as splash-backs for kitchens and bathrooms and pieces of sculpture to enhance individual interiors and gardens.
