Vicki Otte, Kimpton Artist         ‘I Aim to Amuse’

Although raised in Devon and Cornwall, Vicki has made Kimpton her home for 54 years. She attended Norfolk Art School in Great Yarmouth in the early ‘60s, and has fond memories of the beaches of her youth.

While raising her family, Vicki developed her talents for drawing with illustrations for children’s books; and then, along with her dog, Daniel, she collected fallen branches from Christmas Woods on the outskirts of Kimpton. She dried the raw material and became a renowned wood carver of figures and animals, creating commissions, and historical figures for schools. Vicki was even the ethereal subject of a Guiness advert in SHE magazine of September 1981 depicting women of the time with unusual career paths.

Supported by husband, Jorg, her talented and patient canvas maker, Vicki finds most comfort in her studio, with a window overlooking a pretty courtyard and surrounded by her ‘friends in oil’. Vicki spends every day in the studio, always with that next project in mind. She would admit to being addicted to painting.

With her keen eye for that next quirky subject, Vicki takes her inspiration from everyday life. For many years her ‘Aim to Amuse’ has been solely for herself. But happily, this year Vicki has agreed to share that joie de vivre with Kimpton Art Show.
